What is a Scholarship?
A scholarship is money given to you to help pay for your education or related expenses. Scholarships come from a variety of sources, such as your college or a private organization.
Examples of types of scholarships:
- Merit scholarships are based on a student's achievements.
- School scholarships are given to students by the school they attend.
- Work scholarships require students to work to receive scholarship money.
- Field of Study scholarships are given to students pursuing a specific field of study or academic program.
- Need scholarships are based on financial need.

Computer Information Science Scholarship
CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service
Students attending specific participating institutions may qualify for CyberCorps scholarships, which are funded through grants awarded by the National Science Foundation. Scholarship recipients are obligated to serve at a federal, state, local, or tribal government organization in an information assurance position for a period equivalent to the length of the scholarship or one year, whichever is longer.

Microsoft Cybersecurity Scholarship Program
The Microsoft Cybersecurity Scholarship Program supports community college students completing their cybersecurity degrees and attaining industry certificates through scholarships (up to $500) or subsidies for cybersecurity certification exam costs (up to $375).
Students currently enrolled in a cybersecurity-related program at a two-year institution, such as Cosumnes River College, are able to demonstrate financial need by providing Pell Grant eligibility, financial aid award letters, or other evidence of need are eligible.

This is a helpful tool to help students find scholarships that do not require proof of citizenship. Criteria can vary, but the common denominator is that a social security number and proof of citizenship or legal residency is not required to apply or receive the scholarship
Honors Research Symposium and Honors Scholarship
Symposium and Scholarship Details
CRC is hosting its second annual Honors Research Symposium, Friday, May 6, 2022, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm via Zoom!
To have your work considered for presentation, you must be a current CRC Honors Program student and must:
- Submit an abstract (of 150-250 words) of either:
- a finished paper written for, or a seminar presentation that was delivered to, a CRC Honors course, or
- an abstract (of 150-250 words) for a work-in-progress from a CRC Honors course
- Have your submission endorsed by the member of the Honors faculty for whom you wrote the paper, gave the presentation, or are developing the relevant work-in-progress.
Dates and Details
- Abstract submission deadline: Friday, April 22, 2022
- Selection notification via email: Friday, April 29, 2022
- If selected, students will be invited to give a five-minute "work-in-progress" or a 10-15-minute "finished research project" presentation. Presentations will be followed by responses from panelists.
- Limit of one submission and one presentation per student.
The best "work-in-progress" presentation will be awarded a $250 scholarship, a certificate of award, and recognition during the Honors Program's annual awards ceremony. The best "finished research project" presentation will be awarded a $500 scholarship, a certificate of award, and recognition during the Honors Program's annual awards ceremony.
