Counseling

The Counseling Center provides prospective and current students with comprehensive academic, career, personal, and crisis counseling necessary to successfully reach their goals. The Counseling Center offers services to students who have a Cosumnes River College student ID number.

New students should meet with a counselor to make an educational plan. Your educational plan will outline which courses you should take to meet your educational goal.

We encourage all students – new and continuing – to be more proactive in planning out your academic careers by visiting counselors during our appointment season. Counselors will be seeing continuing students primarily by appointments from Aug 30th until Spring enrollment. Students will be booked with counselors based on their major.

Counseling services include:

Academic

Counselors are available to assist you in clarifying and planning your academic goals. We can help you complete an educational plan for your certificate, associate degree and/or transfer curriculum. Human Career Development classes, taught by counselors, are designed to assist you in becoming a successful student. We can refer students with special learning needs to a variety of support services.

Career

A career goal should be based on your own unique interests, personal values, aptitude, and life experiences. You and your counselor can explore and select the best major and career goal for you.

Personal Counseling

We recognize that life does not always run smoothly. Going to school and dealing with obstacles that sometimes get in the way, can be a stressful experience. For that reason, we provide confidential short-term counseling.

Mental Health Services can treat issues including but not limited to: Relationship issues, Worries/Anxiety, Depression, Transitions in Life, Conflict, Stress, Grief and Loss, Parenting, Addiction. Services are strict confidential and there is no fee charged for enrolled Cosumnes River College students.

Crisis Intervention

If you are experiencing acute and emotional distress that requires immediate attention, come directly to the counseling center and request to see a crisis counselor.
