Cosumnes River Archaeology Working Lab (CRAWL)

CRAWL was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing an archaeological lab experience for community college students. Currently we are working on artifacts from a historic site located in Old Sacramento. The collection includes a variety of artifacts including glass, ceramics, metal, personal grooming items, and animal bone among other things.

More information about the lab, our alumni, and student blogs can be found on our CRAWL website.

For a photographic tour of the lab and its work please view our photo album on Facebook.

Student Opportunity

Under the supervision of Profs. Amanda Paskey and Anastasia Panagakos, students currently enrolled in college have the opportunity to work with this collection and learn the fundamentals of archaeological lab analysis through an independent study project (Anth 495). Over thirty students have participated in the lab since 2012 and many have moved on to four year universities, entered graduate studies in archaeology, and found employment in cultural resource management or other related fields.
