What is TRIO Student Support Services SOAR (SSS-SOAR) and Student Support Services STEM (SSS-STEM)?

TRIO Student Support Services SOAR (SSS-SOAR) and Student Support Services STEM (SSS-STEM) are free federal programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The programs support eligible CRC students, from traditionally underserved populations, in their academic, social, and professional pursuits.

SSS-SOAR supports CRC students across all majors, while SSS-STEM specifically supports CRC students in the fields of STEM: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and health sciences. Both programs focus on increasing CRC’s retention, graduation, and transfer rates.

TRIO SSS-SOAR/SSS-STEM services include:

  • Academic advising
  • Academic support/tutoring
  • College/University campus tours
  • Career advising and preparation
  • Cultural activities
  • College success workshops
  • Financial literacy
  • Priority registration
  • Peer and faculty mentoring

Am I Eligible to Participate?

To be eligible for TRIO SSS-SOAR/TRIO SSS-STEM, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Enrolled at CRC
  2. U.S. citizen or permanent resident

And also meet one of the following:

  1. First-generation college student*
    *neither parent/legal guardian has earned a bachelor's degree
  2. Meet federal income eligibility
  3. Documented disability

Additionally, you must have the goals of transferring to a four-year university and/or graduating with an A.A./A.S. degree.
