Hawk CARES Program
The Program
Many students face various issues ranging from food insecurity, to homelessness, to needing short-term emergency funding. We understand these needs may be greater than they were in the past. The Hawk CARES (Community and Academic Resources for Every Student’s Success) Program was created to address basic needs and provide resources to students at Cosumnes River College.

The CARES programs include the following:
Homes for Hawks
Homes for Hawks serves as a housing resource hub to current and future CRC students including emergency hotel, deposit reimbursement, utility assistance, and more.
The Hawk Spot Food Pantry
The Hawk Spot Food Pantry provides food and necessities for students experiencing food insecurity. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of three units at CRC.
The Hawk Closet
The Hawk Closet provides suits and professional clothing to students to prepare them to enter the workforce. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of three units at CRC.
Student Emergency Fund
The Student Emergency Fund provides immediate financial assistance to students involved in catastrophic or unexpected emergency situations.
Resource Request Form
This form is to be used to request deposit reimbursement, utility assistance, and gas.
Workshops and Life Skills Classes
Money Matters Series
Money Matters is designed to help students develop a healthy financial lifestyle by learning and applying some of the key foundational concepts of financial literacy and well-being.
Nutritional Education Series
Learn how to maximize your grocery budget, make simple dishes on a budget, kitchen tips and tricks, plus receive free cookware and other kitchen tools.
Hawk CARES includes other resources to help care for our students:
- Shower facilities for students
- The Student Emergency Fund
- Textbook/Supply Vouchers
- The Gowns for Grads program
- Hygiene kits and feminine products
Mission
Cosumnes River College understands that meeting the basic needs of our students greatly impacts their mental and physical health, academic performance, work productivity, and academic success. The Cosumnes River College Hawk CARES Program’s mission is to address the gaps and concerns students have with accessing nutritious food, stable housing, and financial wellness resources. We are committed to equitably minimizing basic needs challenges for all students.
Vision
The Hawk CARES Program is a student-initiated, campus and district backed effort that promotes equitable access to basic needs through student empowerment, community collaboration, and institutional integration. Our aim is to shift cultural consciousness towards understanding the fulfillment of basic needs, which include food and housing security – a guaranteed right for every person. We are committed to making Cosumnes River College a basic needs-secure campus.
