Frequently Asked Questions on the Ford ASSET program
The Ford ASSET Program is a partnership between Cosumnes River College (CRC) and Ford Motor Company that has been turning out qualified technicians for over twenty years. Throughout this program, you’ll spend 8 weeks of each semester at CRC being trained by Ford certified instructors, and the other 8 weeks of each semester are spent at a Ford dealership training with their best technicians! This means that you get real world experience in a dealership on the subjects you just learned, and the opportunity to start earning income before you graduate!
The Ford ASSET Program is a two year program, but the way it is structured, when you finish you’ve really spent about one year in school, and already have one year of hands on work experience at a Ford dealership.
ASSET students receive training multiple ways:
- Automotive classes on campus covering every system from bumper to bumper. Courses consist of lecture and shop components, where you will train using Ford vehicles and equipment.
- Hands on work experience at a Ford or Lincoln dealership working alongside top technicians who become your personal mentors.
- Access to Ford’s Professional Technician Society where you can access online training courses at any time.
- General education classes necessary for your degree make you more marketable to dealerships and give you more opportunities for advancement in the future.
As an ASSET graduate you will earn:
- An Associate’s Degree in Automotive Mechanics Technology and eight automotive college certificates
- Up to 100% of current Ford Service Technician Specialty Training (STST) certifications
- These are the same certifications Ford dealership technicians are required to complete
- Most of the requirements needed to become a Ford Senior Master Technician – Ford’s top certification.
- Bureau of Automotive Repair certified training required to obtain your CA Smog Check Inspector and/or Repair Technician licenses
- Compensation during your eight week work experience sessions
- NOTE: Student compensation is at the sole discretion of the sponsoring dealership. Students may start at their dealership as an unpaid intern and may or may not receive pay during any or all work experience sessions.
- A rewarding career as a technician at a Ford or Lincoln dealership!
The complete program including books, tuition, and fees currently costs approximately $6200 (but is subject to change based on CA community college tuition costs). These costs are paid as you go, semester by semester. Keep in mind that you may be getting paid by your dealership during the work experience sessions, and financial aid, grants, and scholarships are available to those that qualify. Similar programs at private trade schools may cost over $30,000 plus interest!
