English Course Sequence
English Composition Courses
All CRC students are eligible to enroll in ENGL C1000. Students may choose to also take the support course – ENGWR 80 – concurrently. Learn more about the English placement process.
First Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing1 (3 units)
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing1 (3 units) and ENGWR 80: Accelerated College Writing (3 units) – must be taken concurrently
- ENGWR 341: Introduction to Technical and Professional Writing2 (3 units)
- ENGWR C1000H: Academic Reading and Writing – Honors1 / 3 (3 units)
- 1 Fulfills Cal-GETC 1A and AA/AS GE L1A. Transfers to four-year colleges and universities.
- 2 Fulfills AA/AS GE L1A. Transfers to CSU.
- 3 Requires admission to the Honors program.
Second Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGWR 301: College Composition and Literature4 (3 units)
- ENGL C1001: Critical Thinking and Writing5 (3 units)
- 4 Fulfills Cal-GETC 1B and 3, and AA/AS GE L1B and L3. Transfers to four-year colleges and universities.
- 5 Fulfills Cal-GETC 1B and AA/AS GE L1B. Transfers to four-year colleges and universities.
Support Courses
The following classes can be taken alongside English composition classes to provide additional support.
- ENGRD 310: Critical Reading and Critical Thinking
- ENGLB 70 through 78: Writing Center – open access laboratory assists students in writing, sentence structure, essay development, and reading in any subject area.
