“Lower Division Transfer Pattern Workshop”
The process of course/major articulation rests with the faculty at the perspective institutions of higher education. The actual review of the course content, and identification of comparable courses requires community college faculty participation and input especially with the new LDTP (lower division transfer pattern) implemented by the California State University system. The college articulation officer can help faculty understand this crucial process, which ultimately helps our students transfer. This workshop will discuss the various articulation cycles and how you can get your course ready for articulation with other institutions of higher learning. Presenter: Teresa Aldredge.

Club Advising Made Easy
Students have a desire to contribute to their learning and campus spirit in special ways such as through clubs and organizations. To support this aspiration each student club or organization is required to have a faculty advisor. The purpose of this workshop is to recruit and inform faculty about the ease and rewards of club advising (including flex credit!) in hopes of increasing faculty participation in this area. The Student Development Office’s “Faculty Advisor Club Guide” will be distributed to participants and workshop participants will discover the possibilities of co-advising and using the Club Advisor’s Guide.

Retention and Persistence Strategies -- Brown Bag

In June 2005, Dan DuBray completed a doctoral dissertation research project focused on nine community colleges in Los Angeles, comprising a sample of 4,900 students, pertaining to their retention and persistence in community colleges. Dan will provide a review of the literature regarding the challenges of community college students and factors that contribute to student retention and persistence, as well as the implications from his quantitative study. The emphasis of the workshop is to discuss how we as faculty and staff apply strategies in the classroom and student services to assist students and their persistence in community college.

CRC’s new model of program review integrates student learning outcomes into program review, using a model which defines programs based on their roles or functions. You will have the opportunity to explore the model, engage in discussions about how to implement its components, and begin or extend the development of outcomes for your program. A working lunch will help fuel the process. The information and practice you will gain from the Institute will be helpful in Spring 2006 when your department completes the review process. We suggest that you consider sending a "team" of two or more from your department, but that is not required.

What approach should EGUSD take to best meet the needs of their students who are English language learners? The Elk Grove English Language Learner Task Force studied this issue in 2004 and recommended a number of strategies to the Elk Grove School Board, which were accepted.
