Ron
was a standout student-athlete at CRC and CSUS. He achieved
accolades such as “All Nor-Cal”, “Pepsi
Scholar Athlete”, and “Team MVP Overall”
(etc.) Ron was fortunate to play for such notable coaches
as Travis Parker (Cosumnes River College), Dean Wurzberger
(CSU, Sacramento) now at the University of Washington, and
David Linenberger (CSU, Sacramento) formerly of University
of South Carolina, Sparatanburg, Fresno State and United States
Soccer Federation.
While
playing at CSU, Sacramento, the team was ranked 11th in the
nation and were unfortunate not to get the invitation to the
post-season playoffs. Ron earned his Bachelors in Physical
Education in 1991 from CSU, Sacramento. After college, Ron
had a short stint in the Western Soccer League from 1988-1990,
where he served first as an administrator for the team and
then a player before having a season ending injury.
Ron
started his collegiate coaching career in 1988 as an assistant
to Travis Parker here at CRC. Ron then spend five years as
an assistant to Head Coach, Michael Linenberger at CSU, Sacramento.
Ron returned
to CRC in the fall of 1997 as an assistant to Travis Parker.
In the spring of 1999, before serving as the CRC Interim Head
Coach, Ron served as an assistant coach and then the Interim
head coach and general manager for the Sacramento Geckos in
the A-League, the Professional Division of the United Soccer
Leagues.
In 2000
after completing his Masters Degree in Physical Education-Sports
Management, Ron was fortunate to be hired to fill the full-time
Head Coach position at CRC. Ron enters his fifth year as the
full-time Head Coach for the Hawks. After 20 years of dedication
and devotion to youth soccer, Ron has stepped away from the
youth ranks, but will still have opportunities to work with
youth players through the CRC Soccer camps and other youth
projects.
This last
summer Ron worked double duty behind the scenes for the Sacramento
Knights. The Inaugural season went well both on the field
and off the field. Many of the Knights served as camp and
clinic coaches for the college.
2003 was
a breakout season for the Hawks. Four years of hard work and
creating a CRC Soccer culture. The Hawks finished the 2003
campaign with being State Finalists, #3 in the Nation, #1
in the State, #1 in Nor-Cal, and a Conference Championship.
The team received many other awards such as Player of the
Year, Midfielder of the Year, and Attacker of the Year, Honorable
Mention. Coach Preble was honored with BVC-Coach of the Year
as well as Nor-Cal Coach of the Year. The team also has five
players that were All Conference, two All Nor-Cal, one All
California, one All Far-West, and one All-American.
